The student visa is the only visa that allows you to study in Australia for the length of time you desire and work at the same time; this visa is recommended if you plan to study a full time course in Australia for over 3 months or further their studies in any career training. It will cost you AU$ 550. The conditions to apply for a student visa in Australia depend on the Assessment level of your country. Consult the DIAC website for all information about the student visa.
The main conditions are the following:
- You cannot apply for a student visa unless you have been enrolled in an accredited Australian institution, have paid all fees and received an e-COE (electronic Confirmation of Enrolment)
- You must be enrolled in a FULL TIME course superior or equal to 3 months (12 weeks): it can be an English course, vocational training, university degrees… with the conditions they are all CRICOS accredited;
- You can work up to 20 hours per week during your studies and full time during your school holidays. WARNING: you cannot work unless you have started your course.
- You must have paid the compulsory OSHC (Overseas Students Health Cover) with the selected Australian institution.
- This visa can be renewed several times as long as you are enrolled in a full time course each time.
- You may have to undertake medical exams and X-rays (please check with the closest Australian diplomatic mission).
- You can bring members of your family with you (spouse and under 18 years old children) as “dependents”: both parents can work part time but will have to show evidence of schooling for the children into an Australian institution. Please refer to our section Training in Australia if you need some help to enrol in an accredited Australian institution or contact us if you are not sure about the training you are interested in for yourself or/and your children.
